Baseball Recap: Bethel Takes a Loss

Bethel fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Urbana on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Hillclimbers by a score of 2-1.

Lucas Buckholtz was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April.

On the hitting side, Bethel saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Routt, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base.

Bethel has also been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-10 record this season. As for Urbana, they now have a winning record of 12-11.

Coming up, Bethel will face off against Shawnee at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Braves have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.73 runs per game on average), something the Bees will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Urbana, they will challenge Indian Lake at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Lakers' pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so the Hillclimbers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
