Payson faced Uintah in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Lions came out on top in a nail-biter against the Utes, sneaking past 6-4. The win was nothing new for the Lions as they're now sitting on four straight.
Aydrie Christensen made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off 12 hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run.
In other batting news, Allie Callahan was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Lexie Harmer was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
Payson's record now sits at 11-2. As for Uintah, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-5.
Coming up, Payson will face off against Salem Hills at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Uintah, they are taking a road trip to challenge Wasatch at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Wasps have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.47 runs per game on average), something the Utes will no doubt try to take advantage of.
