Baseball Recap: Rivera Sets Scoring Season-High Against Edcouch-Elsa

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rivera). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Edcouch-Elsa Yellowjackets an 18-0 shutout on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Andres Rocha made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Rivera let Marcos Guerrero and Santiago Gonzalez run wild. Guerrero scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Gonzalez went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. The dominant performance gave Guerrero a new career-high in runs. Fred Ruiz also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Rivera always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Edcouch-Elsa only posted an OBP of .188.

The victory was the third in a row for Rivera, bringing their record for this year to 8-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Edcouch-Elsa, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.

Rivera has already played their next contest, a 7-6 defeat against Lopez on the 11th. As for Edcouch-Elsa, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 12-10 loss against Pace on the 11th.
