Softball Game Preview: Decatur Golden Gators vs. Kentlake Falcons

The Decatur Golden Gators will venture away from home to take on the Kentlake Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Thursday just wasn't the day for Decatur's offense. They came up short against Auburn Mountainview on Thursday, falling 8-0. The game marked the first time this season in which the Golden Gators were not able to get on the board.

Decatur saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luci Pech, who went 1-for-3 with one double. That double was Pech's first of the season.

Meanwhile, Kentlake was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 12-2 to White River.

Kentlake's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Decatur, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 4-3.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Decatur hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Kentlake struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.

Decatur took their victory against Kentlake in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 13-4 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Gators since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
