Softball Game Preview: Glide Wildcats vs. Marshfield Pirates

The Glide Wildcats are taking a road trip to challenge the Marshfield Pirates at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Glide has three straight wins, Marshfield has ten straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Friday, Glide made easy work of Siuslaw and carried off a 14-1 victory. Considering the Wildcats have won ten matchups by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Ella Weber made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Peyton Geiger and Brionna Miller did most of the damage at the plate: Geiger went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Miller went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one run. That's the most hits Miller has posted over her last 11 contests. Emma Geiger was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Glide was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. They are 10-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Marshfield couldn't beat Marist on Friday even though they stacked four runs on them in the second inning. The Pirates came up short against the Spartans, falling 18-8.

Glide's record now sits at 14-7. As for Marshfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-13.

Glide suffered a grim 10-3 defeat to Marshfield when the teams last played back in May of 2023. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
