Basketball Game Preview: Foard Tigers vs. St. Stephens Indians

Foard is 2-8 against St. Stephens since December of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Foard Tigers will face off against the St. Stephens Indians at 7:45 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Foard is headed into Tuesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their ninth straight game on Friday. They had to suffer through a 83-49 loss at the hands of Hickory. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 594th, while the Red Tornadoes are ranked 56th).

Meanwhile, St. Stephens played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 75-51 to Statesville. The Indians have struggled against the Greyhounds recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Foard will have to keep a close watch on Jachavis Sherrill and Noah Vanbeurden, a pair of players who had a big impact on St. Stephens' prior game. Sherrill dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten boards, while Vanbeurden went 8 for 16 on his way to 20 points. With that strong performance, Sherrill is now averaging an impressive 8.1 rebounds per game. Javian White also deserves some recognition as he posted his first blocks of the season.

Foard's loss dropped their record down to 1-15. As for St. Stephens, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-11.

Foard came up short against St. Stephens in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 82-72. Can Foard avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
