Basketball Game Preview: Peninsula Catholic Knights vs. Steward Spartans

The Peninsula Catholic Knights will face off against the Steward Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Peninsula Catholic knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight matchups -- so hopefully Steward likes a good challenge.

On Tuesday, Peninsula Catholic needed a bit of extra time to put away Norfolk Collegiate. They walked away with an 82-72 victory over the Mighty Oaks.

Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Steward on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Norfolk Christian as Steward made off with a 68-42 win. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 39th, while the Ambassadors are ranked 225th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Peninsula Catholic has also been performing well recently as they've won 14 of their last 17 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.6 points per game. As for Steward, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 13-5.

Everything went Peninsula Catholic's way against Steward in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, as Peninsula Catholic made off with a 53-29 win. Does Peninsula Catholic have another victory up their sleeve, or will Steward turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
