Softball Recap: Brevard Takes a Loss

If Brevard was riding high fresh off their 17-11 takedown of Smoky Mountain last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Blue Devils took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Polk County Wolverines on Tuesday. The Blue Devils were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wolverines apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Emma Bailey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and two unearned) runs on 16 hits and racked up 14 Ks. Those 14 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Claire Wilson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Brevard's loss dropped their record down to 12-4. As for Polk County, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-5.

Coming up, Brevard will face off against Pisgah at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Blue Devils will need to watch out since the Bears have now posted at least ten runs in their last five matches. As for Polk County, they will challenge Hendersonville at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Wolverines' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bearcats have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season.
