Basketball Recap: St. Maries Lumberjacks vs. Priest River Spartans
St. Maries was the 49-42 winner over Priest River when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The St. Maries Lumberjacks fell 54-44 to the Priest River Spartans on Tuesday.
Priest River had a senior duo take command as Palmer Coleman posted ten points along with eight rebounds and three steals and Nate Stiffel dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards. Those ten rebounds set a new season-high mark for Stiffel. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Cook, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 boards.
St. Maries' defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 6-6. As for Priest River, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-2.
St. Maries has already played their next game, an 80-34 loss against Bonners Ferry on the 24th. As for Priest River, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 53-38 defeat against Orofino on the 24th.
