Baseball Game Preview: Hamden Hall Country Day Hornets vs. Avon Old Farms Beavers

The Hamden Hall Country Day Hornets will venture away from home to square off against the Avon Old Farms Beavers at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. Hamden Hall Country Day will be strutting in after a win while Avon Old Farms will be coming in after a loss.

Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Hamden Hall Country Day turned things around against St. Luke's on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Storm 6-4.

Jey Scanlon was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Hamden Hall Country Day's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-9 when he doesn't). Atticus Bird also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Hamden Hall Country Day was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.

Trinity-Pawling School hit Avon Old Farms with a four-run fifth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Beavers fell just short of the Pride by a score of 6-4. The Beavers' loss signaled the end of their ten-game winning streak.

Avon Old Farms' defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 9-1 and their overall record down to 11-2. As for Hamden Hall Country Day, they now have a winning record of 10-9.

Hamden Hall Country Day beat Avon Old Farms 5-1 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
