Basketball Recap: Norco Takes a Loss

Norco suffered their closest defeat since January 5, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of the Yucaipa Thunderbirds by a score of 69-67. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Monday (63), the Cougars still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why Norco lost, don't look at Ryan Ibbetson. Despite the final result, he went 8 of 18 en route to 17 points. Ibbetson has been hot, having also posted two or more blocks the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jayson Bohrer, who posted 11 points and three steals.

Leading Yucaipa to victory were Jaxon Lerma and Jonathan Campbell. Lerma dropped a triple-double on 15 points, 14 boards, and ten assists, while Campbell dropped a double-double on 22 points and 14 rebounds. With that strong performance, Lerma is now averaging an impressive 8.1 boards per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Lazzar, who put up 11 points.

Norco's loss dropped their record down to 6-13. As for Yucaipa, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season.

Norco didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 56-46 defeat against Corona on the 9th. As for Yucaipa, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 60-45 victory against Beaumont on the 7th.
