Softball Preview: Fayette Academy Vikings vs. Haywood Tomcats

The Fayette Academy Vikings will head out on the road to square off against the Haywood Tomcats at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

As a matter of fact, Fayette Academy put up the most points they have all season on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 17-2 margin over Fayette Ware. Considering the Vikings have won three games by more than 13 runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

JoAnna Bond was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. Bond was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Kasey Kimery was incredible, firing off two home runs, six RBI, and two stolen bases while going 3-for-3. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Clara Pulliam, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.

Fayette Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fayette Ware only posted an OBP of .417.

Meanwhile, Haywood made easy work of Lake County two weeks ago and carried off a 14-3 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Tomcats.

Like Fayette Academy, Haywood also got a great game from a two-way player: Lillian Scott. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Scott was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with three doubles, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Rylee Rimmer was a standout: she scored three runs while going 3-for-5. Another player making a difference was Kaitlyn Smoot, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5.

The victory got Fayette Academy back to even at 3-3. As for Haywood, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
