Baseball Game Preview: Corona Panthers vs. Centennial Huskies

The Corona Panthers will venture away from home to face off against the Centennial Huskies at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Corona's pitching crew has only allowed 1.1 runs per game this season, so Centennial's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Corona is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to ten runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Santiago on Thursday. They fell just short of the Sharks by a score of 1-0. The Panthers' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, Centennial came tearing into Thursday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 5-1 victory over the Mustangs.

Grant Preuss looked comfortable as he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Bobby Anderson was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Jaden Walk-Green was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Centennial hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive matchups.

Corona's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 8-1 and their overall record down to 19-2. As for Centennial, their record now sits at 15-4.

Corona skirted past Centennial 2-0 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
