Baseball Recap: Villa Grove Takes a Loss

After flying high against Blue Ridge on Monday, Villa Grove came back down to earth. The Blue Devils fell 5-2 to the Cumberland Pirates on Thursday. The Blue Devils were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pirates apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Villa Grove saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Thomas Vandeventer, who went 2-for-3 with one double. That double marked the first that Vandeventer has hit this season.

Villa Grove's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Cumberland, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-8.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Villa Grove is set to square off against their familiar foe Tri-County [Kansas/Shiloh/Oakland] at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Cumberland will take on rival Okaw Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
