Basketball Game Preview: Sanderson Spartans vs. Broughton Capitals

Sanderson is 1-9 against Broughton since February of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Sanderson Spartans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Broughton Capitals at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with 20 losses in a row dating back to last season, Sanderson turned things around against Enloe on Tuesday. They strolled past the Eagles with points to spare, taking the game 45-26. The Spartans' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Meanwhile, Broughton hadn't done well against Cardinal Gibbons recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Broughton managed a 47-41 victory over Cardinal Gibbons.

Broughton's win came from a few key players Sanderson will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jane Kern, who posted 13 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. She has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 18 times she's played. Kendall Walpole was another key player, putting up 12 points and six boards.

Broughton was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cardinal Gibbons only racked up six assists.

Sanderson's win ended a 12-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-16. As for Broughton, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a massive bump to their 11-9 record this season.
