The Geneva Panthers will challenge the Williamson Marauders at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Geneva barely beat Midlakes the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Panthers blew past the Screaming Eagles 8-1 on Saturday. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Screaming Eagles recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Anthony Delgago-Nunez was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Alex Dorrington, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, while Williamson put up plenty of runs on Saturday, the same can't be said for Franklin. The Marauders put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 30-0 victory. The Marauders' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Myles Wurtz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Williamson is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 4-8 otherwise. Wurtz was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Caiden Watson and David DeFisher did most of the damage at the plate: Watson went a perfect 4-for-4 with five runs, three RBI, and one stolen base, while DeFisher went a perfect 3-for-3 with five runs, five RBI, and one double. That's the most runs Watson has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlie Bobowski, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Williamson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .741. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Williamson's win bumped their record up to 7-8. As for Geneva, their victory bumped their record up to 12-4.
Geneva was able to grind out a solid win over Williamson in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, winning 8-4. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Marauders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
