Frankie Goodrich made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Miley Austin also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Romeo, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Port Huron an 11-0 shutout on Friday. That looming 11-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Bulldogs yet this season.
Emily Dawson tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Ava Yaklin and Jess McLeod did most of the damage at the plate: Yaklin scored two runs while going 2-for-2, while McLeod scored two runs while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Bailey Anton, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Romeo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive games.
Chippewa Valley now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Romeo, their record now sits at 4-2.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Chippewa Valley hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .354. However, it's not like Romeo struggles in that department as they've averaged .356. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Chippewa Valley suffered a grim 11-3 defeat to Romeo in their previous matchup back in May of 2023. Can the Big Reds avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
