Preview: Huntingtown Hurricanes vs. Northern Patriots
The Huntingtown Hurricanes will head out on the road to face off against the Northern Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Huntingtown is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.
Huntingtown put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Thursday. They blew past St. Charles 41-7 at home. Huntingtown pushed the score to 34-7 by the end of the third, a deficit St. Charles had little chance of recovering from.
Huntingtown's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brody Whittington, who picked up 100 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in three touchdowns on the ground. Another player making a difference was Evan Kuntz, who threw for 260 yards and three touchdowns on only 18 passes.
Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought game, but Northern had to settle for a 19-17 loss against Calvert on Friday. Northern gained 53 more yards on the day, but it was Calvert that made the best of use of them.
Despite their defeat, Northern saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Tyler Brown, who rushed for 93 yards and two touchdowns, was perhaps the best of all.
Huntingtown has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. As for Northern, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-3.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as the two teams have no problem gaining yardage. Huntingtown has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 368.5 total yards per game. However, it's not like Northern struggles in that department as they've been even better at 414 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
Huntingtown came up short against Northern when the teams last played back in October of 2022, falling 13-6. Can Huntingtown avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
