Softball Game Preview: Caldwell Cougars vs. Emmett Huskies

Caldwell hasn't had much luck against Emmett recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Cougars will look to defend their home field against the Huskies at 5:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Caldwell lost 10-3 to Bishop Kelly on Tuesday. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Payton Garcia was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

Meanwhile, Emmett came up short against Vallivue on Tuesday, falling 13-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Huskies have suffered against the Falcons since May 10, 2022.

Avery Reynolds made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season.

Caldwell's loss dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Emmett, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Caldwell has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Emmett struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Caldwell couldn't quite get it done against Emmett in their previous meeting last Tuesday as they fell 8-3. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
