Basketball Recap: Athens Drive Falls Despite Big Games from Makenzie Kelly and Kianna Gulley

Athens Drive lost against Cardinal Gibbons back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Athens Drive Jaguars took a 44-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders. The Jaguars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Kianna Gulley and Makenzie Kelly certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Gulley posted 15 points along with eight rebounds and four steals, while Kelly went 6 of 11 en route to 14 points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Cardinal Gibbons got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Charlotte Fusco out in front who scored 15 points and eight boards. The dominant performance gave Fusco a new career-high in rebounds. Another player making a difference was Emma Hughes, who earned ten points.

Athens Drive's defeat dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Cardinal Gibbons, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-10.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Broughton the next time they take the court. Cardinal Gibbons will head out to face Broughton at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, while Athens Drive will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
