Baseball Recap: Mountain Empire Drops Season-High Score on Guajome Park Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mountain Empire). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Guajome Park Academy Frogs an 18-0 shutout on Tuesday. With that win, the Redhawks brought their scoring average up to 7.1 runs per game.

Jacob Arnold and Luis Cardoso were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Arnold kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Meanwhile, Cardoso tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those ten strikeouts gave Arnold a new career-high. At the plate, Arnold scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Cardoso scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-5. Cardoso has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times he's played.

In other batting news, Mountain Empire got a massive performance out of Issac Gonzalez, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-5. Gonzalez is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Michael Nobel, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4.

Mountain Empire kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matchups.

Mountain Empire has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Guajome Park Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-9.

Mountain Empire will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Frogs: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
