For the first time this season, San Diego will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Point Loma Pointers at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few points on average (San Diego 7, Point Loma 8.2) so any points scored will be well earned.
San Diego fought the good fight in their overtime game against Rancho Bernardo on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 23-16 to the Broncos. The loss was the Cavers' first of the season.
Despite the loss, San Diego had strong showings from Jayden Harris, who threw for 138 yards and one TD, and Jayden Johnson, who rushed for 84 yards.
Even if they lost, San Diego's defense still kept up the pressure with four sacks. Esteban Herrera refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself.
Meanwhile, Point Loma put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past La Jolla 37-7. The result was nothing new for the Pointers, who have now won three matchups by 22 points or more so far this season.
Point Loma's win came from a few key players San Diego will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Romeo Carter, who picked up 70 receiving yards and a pair of scores. He also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making two total tackles and defending one pass in addition to snagging two interceptions. Ryder Watson was another key signal caller, throwing for 89 yards and two touchdowns on only six passes.
Point Loma's run defense was locked in: La Jolla could only muster 1.6 yards per carry. The team can thank Ace Selchow for the heroic effort on defense: he. Point Loma's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.9.
Point Loma didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Owen Ice and Carter. Ice also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with seven.
Having lost for the first time this season, San Diego fell to 4-1. As for Point Loma, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.
San Diego was dealt a bruising 50-7 defeat at the hands of Point Loma in their previous matchup back in September of 2023. Thankfully for the Cavers, Brady Allen (who threw for 168 yards and three TDs while completing 88.9% of his passes) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
