Softball Recap: Beacon Comes Up Short

Beacon extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to four on Monday, dropping them down to 0-3. They came up short against the Port Jervis Red Raiders, falling 19-0. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Bulldogs' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Port Jervis, they pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games.

For Port Jervis' part, Peyton Gurliacci was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave Gurliacci a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Savannah Mioglionico, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Looking ahead, Beacon will welcome Liberty at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Indians have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.75 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Port Jervis, they will head out on the road to square off against Sullivan West at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Red Raiders will need to watch out since the Bulldogs have now posted at least ten runs every time they've taken the field this season.
