Softball Recap: Saint Ignatius College Prep Finds Home Field Redemption Against Payton College Prep

There's no place like home for Saint Ignatius College Prep, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They never let the Payton College Prep Grizzlies get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory on Friday. The Wolfpack haven't had any issues with the Grizzlies recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Katie McClain made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. McClain was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Sarah Fitzgerald and Sophia Fredericks did most of the damage at the plate: Fitzgerald scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances, while Fredericks went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Fitzgerald a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Samantha Steinhofer, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Saint Ignatius College Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Payton College Prep only posted a batting average of .200.

The victory got Saint Ignatius College Prep back to even at 1-1. As for Payton College Prep, their loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-2.

Saint Ignatius College Prep wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 14-13 win against Varsity Opponent on the 26th. After both having extra time off, Payton College Prep and Northside will shake off the rust and duke it out at 4:30 p.m. on April 2. The matchup will give Payton College Prep their first taste of in-conference action this season.
