There's no place like home for Maine West, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Vernon Hills Cougars 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Warriors have posted since May 18, 2024.

Konrad Dudzik tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Perish Smith was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in April. Julian Delao was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

With the victory, Maine West broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 8-18. As for Vernon Hills, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-20.

Maine West will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Cougars: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday.
