Preview: Cuthbertson Cavaliers vs. Providence Panthers
Cuthbertson has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Providence Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Cuthbertson focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Wednesday.
Last Wednesday, Cuthbertson ended up a good deal behind Marvin Ridge and lost 68-54. While losing is never fun, Cuthbertson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 268th, while Marvin Ridge is ranked 29th).
Despite the defeat, Cuthbertson saw an underclassman step up: Christian Mundy scored 22 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mundy has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Johnson, who scored 11 points along with four steals.
Providence posted their biggest victory since December 1, 2023 on Thursday. They blew past Rocky River, posting a 60-27 victory on the road. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Providence.
Cuthbertson has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. As for Providence, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 6-8 record this season.
Cuthbertson suffered a grim 57-32 defeat to Providence when the teams last played back in December of 2023. Can Cuthbertson avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
