Baseball Recap: Augusta Sets Scoring Season-High Against Whitehall

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Augusta ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They skirted past the Whitehall Vikings 12-10. The Beavers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Augusta got a massive performance out of Josh Shong, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two runs gave Shong a new career-high. Bryce Buttke was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Augusta kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.6.

Augusta picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 3-11. As for Whitehall, their loss ended a 12-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-7.

Coming up, Augusta will head out to challenge Cadott at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Beavers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hornets have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Whitehall, they will be playing at home against Melrose-Mindoro at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Mustangs' pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so the Vikings' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
