Basketball Recap: Struthers Comes Up Short

Struthers lost against Memorial back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Struthers Wildcats were outmatched by the Memorial Red Devils and fell 83-50. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 647th, while the Red Devils are ranked 315th).

Josue Rodriguez was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 31 points and ten boards for Memorial. Rodriguez's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Jared Colon was another key player, putting up 16 points and six assists.

Struthers has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-9 record this season. As for Memorial, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-2.

Struthers won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Mathews at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Mathews' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for Memorial, they will challenge Mineral Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Memorial is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 69.8 points per game this season.
