Baseball Game Preview: Philip Barbour Colts vs. Ritchie County Rebels

The Philip Barbour Colts will venture away from home to face off against the Ritchie County Rebels at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Philip Barbour will be strutting in after a victory while Ritchie County will be coming in after a defeat.

Philip Barbour made up a huge gap compared to their last game against East Fairmont, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Philip Barbour blew past East Fairmont 14-1 on Tuesday. The game was the first time the Colts have beaten the Bees on their field since May 13, 2021.

Grant Harris made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Landyn Carpenter was incredible, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Slaton Harris, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

Meanwhile, Ritchie County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss dating back to last season. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 1-0 heartbreaker at the hands of Notre Dame.

Turner Shriver was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one triple.

Philip Barbour has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs this season. As for Ritchie County, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.
