Basketball Recap: Dexter Triumphs

Dexter lost to Mescalero Apache back in December of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Dexter Demons escaped with a win against the Mescalero Apache Chiefs by the margin of a single free throw, 46-45. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Demons.

Dexter's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Melody Duran led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 18 points and nine boards. Duran is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jayda Flores, who posted nine points in addition to six rebounds and four steals.

Dexter's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-5. As for Mescalero Apache, they moved to 8-3 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Dexter didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 33-29 win against Ruidoso on the 27th. Mescalero Apache has also already played their next contest, a 60-40 victory against Bosque on the 27th.
