Softball Recap: Portland Takes a Loss

Portland extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 2-7 in the process. They lost 24-0 to the East Hampton Bellringers. If the Highlanders were looking for revenge after losing 25-7 to the Bellringers when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for East Hampton, they moved to 3-4 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For East Hampton's part, Kendall Jump was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Jump has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, East Hampton got a massive performance out of Emily Jovel, who fired off two home runs, six RBI, and four runs while going 5-for-5. Neha Sidana was another key player, going a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs, five RBI, and one triple.

Portland didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 14-0 victory against Morgan on the 28th. As for East Hampton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 21-10 win against Westbrook on the 28th.
