Soccer Game Preview: Mathews vs. West Point

Mathews is on a four-game streak of home wins, while West Point is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Blue Devils will host the Pointers at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Friday, Mathews was able to grind out a solid win over Lancaster, taking the game 3-1. The final result isn't all the surprising considering Mathews' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia soccer rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while Lancaster are ranked 250th).

Meanwhile, West Point kept a clean sheet against King & Queen Central on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Royal Tigers with a sharp 8-0 victory. Considering West Point have won six contests by more than three goals this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Their offense was hitting King & Queen Central from everywhere, as five different players booted in a goal. Pearson Chapman led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for two goals all by himself.

Mathews has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 28 goals over those nine matches. As for West Point, their victory bumped their record up to 10-1.
