Softball Recap: El Modena Extends Winning Streak to Six

El Modena came tearing into Saturday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against the Norco Cougars. For the Vanguards, this counts as revenge for the 4-2 victory the Cougars walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.

Sara Pinedo looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kaitlyn Galasso, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Savala, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

El Modena pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. As for Norco, with the defeat, they broke their 11-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. El Modena will host Tesoro at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Tesoro 3.2, El Modena 2) so any runs scored will be well earned. Norco will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Corona at 4:00 p.m. on March 20th.
