Softball Game Preview: North Florida Christian Eagles vs. Leon Lions

North Florida Christian is 9-1 against Leon since February of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Eagles will look to defend their home field against the Lions at 4:30 p.m. North Florida Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.

North Florida Christian's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They walked away with a 3-0 victory over Florida State University High School. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.

Not much got past Skylar Young, who gave up just a hit to keep Florida State University High School off the board. Young has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, North Florida Christian's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Brynlee Pafford, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Leon duked it out with Altha on Tuesday. The Lions fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 6-5.

Sara Rose Aikens and Lamonika Sims did some serious damage despite the final result: Aikens went 3-for-4 with one home run, while Sims scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Ashonti Alexander was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

North Florida Christian's victory bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Leon, their loss dropped their record down to 12-6.

Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. North Florida Christian hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. However, it's not like Leon struggles in that department as they've averaged .385. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

North Florida Christian took their win against Leon in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 15-2 score. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
