Basketball Recap: Strom Thurmond Comes Up Short

Strom Thurmond lost against South Aiken back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Strom Thurmond Rebels fell just short of the South Aiken Thoroughbreds by a score of 24-22. While losing is never fun, the Rebels can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 218th, while the Thoroughbreds are ranked 108th).

South Aiken's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was A'Mya Robinson, who posted six points in addition to nine blocks and five boards. Another player making a difference was Tekinia Dixon, who earned seven points along with five rebounds and four steals.

Strom Thurmond's loss was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-9. As for South Aiken, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.

Strom Thurmond will square off against Pelion at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for South Aiken, they will face off against Midland Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. South Aiken's offense hasn't had much luck over their past three matchups, but Friday's contest will give them a chance to turn things around.
