Softball Recap: Central City Value Extends Winning Streak to Three

Central City Value waltzed into their contest on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Downtown Magnets Suns 31-2. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 32-9 last Friday.

Mercedes Ponce made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four stolen bases and four runs. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Central City Value got a massive performance out of Emily Fernandez, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That home run was Fernandez's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Gallardo, who went 3-for-4 with six RBI, two stolen bases, and three runs.

Central City Value was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .645. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Central City Value's record is now 6-3. As for Downtown Magnets, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Coming up, Central City Value will be playing at home against Annenberg at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 19 runs per game on average), something the Jaguars will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Downtown Magnets, they will take on Animo Bunche at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.
