Softball Recap: Zionsville Finds Playoff Glory Versus Westfield

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Zionsville walked away with it. They had just enough and edged out the Westfield Shamrocks 2-1 on Monday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 5-0 on May 6th.

Leah Helton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hadley Bray, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and one RBI.

Zionsville has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Westfield, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-13 record this season.

Zionsville will face off against Carmel at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Westfield does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
