Baseball Recap: Rockledge Comes Up Short

Rockledge had lost four straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped down to 9-11 to make it five. They lost 10-3 to the Maclay Marauders. That's two games in a row now that the Raiders have lost by exactly seven runs.

As for Maclay, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games.

For Maclay's part, Ben Wagnon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 11 Ks. Wagnon has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Beau Beshears, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Tucker Poppell, who went 1-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Rockledge wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 6-3 loss against Melbourne on the 31st. As for Maclay, they will square off against Taylor County at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
