Basketball Recap: Sunnyside Comes Up Short

Sunnyside was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They took an 82-64 bruising from the Marcos de Niza Padres. The Blue Devils were probably out for revenge after losing 94-84 to them when the teams met back in November of 2016, then they'll just have to keep looking.

James Steward was his usual excellent self, putting up seven rebounds for Marcos de Niza. Steward has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more blocks the last 15 times he's played.

Sunnyside's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Marcos de Niza, their win bumped their record up to 11-3.

Sunnyside will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Ironwood Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Ironwood Ridge is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.5 points per game this season. Marcos de Niza will also get a bit of a break before their next contest: they'll face off against St. Mary's at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
