Softball Recap: West Seneca West Comes Up Short

West Seneca West extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to seven on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 0-4 in the process. They came up short against the Williamsville South Billies, falling 10-4. The Warhawks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Billies apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

As for Williamsville South, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games.

For Williamsville South's part, Kate Budzinski spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits.

At the plate, Olivia Sackel and Noelle Jurkowski did most of the damage at the plate: Sackel went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Jurkowski went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Those three RBI gave Jurkowski a new career-high. Tatum Pischka also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Seneca West will host Williamsville North at 5:25 p.m. on Monday. The Warhawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Spartans have averaged an impressive 10 runs per game this season. As for Williamsville South, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Webster Thomas at 5:00 p.m.
