Basketball Recap: Reading Comes Up Short

Reading managed to keep up with Union City until halftime on Thursday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Reading Rangers were beaten by the Union City Chargers 64-36. While losing is never fun, the Rangers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 672nd, while the Chargers are ranked 309th).

Reading's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brayden Wright, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 boards. That's the most rebounds Wright has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Bassage, who posted nine points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Reading smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Union City's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nolan Chard, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidan Decker, who put up ten points along with seven rebounds and five steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Reading and nudges their season record down to 1-9. As for Union City, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.

Reading didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 66-25 loss against Colon on the 11th. As for Union City, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Quincy at 7:00 p.m. Union City is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.2 points per game this season.
