Basketball Recap: Saginaw Takes a Loss

Saginaw was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They took a 67-52 bruising from the Fossil Ridge Panthers. The Rough Riders were down 61-36 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Despite the loss, Saginaw still got an impressive performance from Willie McCrary, who went 9 of 12 en route to 21 points and six boards. Those six rebounds gave McCrary a new career-high. Eugene Roseberry was another key player, putting up 11 points in addition to six boards and four steals.

Fossil Ridge's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Canyon Collier, who went 7 for 16 on his way to 19 points and five steals. Collier has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of DJ Smith, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.

Saginaw's loss dropped their record down to 7-18. As for Fossil Ridge, the victory snapped their losing streak at seven games and leaves them with a 11-13 record.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Granbury the next time they take the court. Fossil Ridge will head out to face Granbury at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Saginaw will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
