The Tippecanoe Valley Vikings will face off against the Morgan Township Cherokees at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Tippecanoe Valley will be strutting in after a victory while Morgan Township will be coming in after a loss.
Tippecanoe Valley took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They blew past La Lumiere 13-3. The Vikings not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since May 2, 2024 (when they won 12-1).
Tristyn Ragon looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Weston Brown, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Hunter Paxton was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Tippecanoe Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as La Lumiere only posted an OBP of .280.
Meanwhile, Morgan Township was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 5-1 to Kouts. Cherokees fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Mustangs & Fillies since on Monday.
Morgan Township saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cooper Spagna, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Jett Gheaja also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Morgan Township's loss dropped their record down to 2-8-1. As for Tippecanoe Valley, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Tippecanoe Valley has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Morgan Township struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Tippecanoe Valley skirted past Morgan Township 5-4 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cherokees turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
