Football Recap: Cigarroa Takes a Loss

The matchup between Cigarroa and Corpus Christi Moody on Friday hardly resembled the 19-3 effort from their previous meeting. The Toros lost to the Trojans on the road by a 42-24 margin. If the Toros were looking for revenge after losing 19-3 to the Trojans when the teams met back in September of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the loss, Cigarroa still got an impressive performance from Armando Mata, who rushed for 66 yards and one score on only eight carries, and also threw for 102 yards and one touchdown while completing 75% of his passes. Ruben Montemayor was another key player, rushing for 51 yards on only six carries.

Kayden Dufour had a dynamite game For Corpus Christi Moody., rushing for 111 yards and a pair of TDs on only six carries. Patrick Garza was in the mix as well, providing the Trojans with one touchdown.

Cigarroa's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Corpus Christi Moody, the win got them back to even at 1-1.

Looking ahead, Cigarroa will take on Southside at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The contest will give the Toros their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Corpus Christi Moody, they will face off against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
