Softball Game Preview: Tennyson Lancers vs. Berkeley Yellowjackets

After both having extra time off, the Tennyson Lancers and the Berkeley Yellowjackets will shake off the rust and duke it out at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Tennyson has given up an average of 15.5 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Tennyson lost 22-8 to San Lorenzo last Thursday. The Lancers have struggled against the Grizzlies recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 24 runs the game before, Berkeley was a bit more limited in their contest last Wednesday. They fell just short of San Leandro by a score of 3-2. Yellowjackets fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Pirates since last Wednesday.

Olive Lightfoot spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on eight hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Berkeley saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Camden Bernhard, who went 2-for-3 with one double.

Berkeley's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-4. As for Tennyson, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.

Tennyson suffered a grim 19-1 defeat to Berkeley in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Lancers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
