Softball Recap: Crystal River Comes Up Short

Crystal River was the 7-0 winner over Belleview when they last played one another back in March of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Pirates fell just short of the Rattlers by a score of 3-2 on Friday. That's two games in a row now that the Pirates have lost by just one run.

Violet Flynn was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

This is the second loss in a row for Crystal River and nudges their season record down to 12-3. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only one runs. As for Belleview, their record now sits at 5-6.

Crystal River wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 4-1 loss against Parrish Community on the 29th. As for Belleview, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 9-8 win against Sickles on the 28th.
