Softball Game Preview: Unicoi County Blue Devils vs. Daniel Boone Trailblazers

The Unicoi County Blue Devils will head out on the road to square off against the Daniel Boone Trailblazers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Unicoi County's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Daniel Boone's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Unicoi County will head out to face Daniel Boone after giving up their first home loss of the season on Monday. The Blue Devils fell just short of West Ridge by a score of 1-0. The match marked the first time this year in which the Blue Devils were not able to get on the board.

Lela Byrd spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 14 Ks. Those 14 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

Daniel Boone not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 18th (when they won 9-2). They were the clear victors by an 11-4 margin over Morristown-Hamblen West. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Trailblazers considering their one-run performance the game before.

Unicoi County's loss dropped their record down to 14-6. As for Daniel Boone, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-12.

Unicoi County came out on top in a nail-biter against Daniel Boone when the teams last played back in March, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
