The Lower Dauphin Falcons will face off against the Palmyra Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Lower Dauphin has four straight wins, Palmyra has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Lower Dauphin's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They put the hurt on Bishop McDevitt with a sharp 10-0 victory.
Sydney Matincheck made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave her a new career-low. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Jayden White was a standout: she scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Jordan Frye was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Lower Dauphin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Palmyra came up short against Carlisle on Monday, falling 12-1.
Palmyra saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kate Shenk, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI. That RBI was Shenk's first of the season.
Lower Dauphin's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Palmyra, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.
Palmyra's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lower Dauphin hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .409. It's a different story for Palmyra, though, as they've only averaged .216. Will they be able to contain Lower Dauphin's hitters?
Everything went Lower Dauphin's way against Palmyra in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Lower Dauphin made off with a 15-0 victory. Does Lower Dauphin have another victory up their sleeve, or will Palmyra turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
