Softball Recap: Chillicothe Gets the Win

Chillicothe took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Jackson, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Cavaliers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over the Ironman/Ironladies on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cavaliers have posted since April 11th.

Cambriana Rittinger made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Vivian Morgan, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 12 matches.

The win made it two in a row for Chillicothe and bumps their season record up to 14-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Jackson, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-4.

Chillicothe will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Ironman/Ironladies: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
