3A Region III District 23 recap November 5, 2013
Worthing extended the longest winning streak in 3A Region III District 23 this week by beating Jones, 28-0. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.
Sterling made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 12,740 from 13,097. The improvement was the result of a 29-16 victory over Washington last week.
Furr's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Brahmans feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Avery Davis has thrown for 1,318 yards and 16 touchdowns this season, while Stacy Piro has 31 catches for 750 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Furr takes on second place Worthing. Furr bested Scarborough last week, while Worthing beat the Falcons.
Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when the Brahmans' Piro goes up against Brandon Ellis' team's Yzerick Oliver.
Next week's game between Furr and the Colts will feature an aerial matchup as Davis tests his arm against Oliver's defensive ability.
There should be lots of points scored when Cornell Gray's team and Worthing face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Brahmans comes in having scored 218 this season, while the Colts have scored 90. Furr scored 68 points last week as it defeated the Spartans.
The Brahmans led the league in scoring this week after putting up 68 points on Scarborough.
